Veteran actress Rekha, who was roped in to play the role of Begum, in Abhishek Kapoor's desi version of the popular Charles Dickens' classic huge Expectations had walked out of the scheme in May 2015, later than shooting for the movie, including an outdoor stint in Kashmir. whereas speculations of Rekha & the director having creative differences were assumed to be the reasons for Rekha's exit from the film, the real reason is supposedly, entirely different. Rekha was roped in to paper the character of Begum, a isolated woman who leads an mysterious life, but is still spoken about her interaction. According to sources in Mid-Day, the expert actress felt that the character had an eerie resemblance to her own life tale. The source was quoted saying that the character of Begum is similar to what Rekha is in real life & while she realised that, she found it difficult & uncomfortable to play herself & opted out of the movie. Tabu was then roped in as a replacement & several scenes had to be reshot.
